NEW,,GENERAL MANAGER MR H. R. CHALMERS APPOINTED (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 21. The board of directors of the Bank of New Zealand announced to-day the appointment of Mr H. R. H. Chalmers, at present assistant general manager, to be general manager in succession to Mr F. Wi Dawson, who will retire on April 30 next. Mr P L. Porter, manager at Christchurch, will become assistant general manager,. Mr L. Brinkman succeeding him at Christchurch. Mr F. E. Ashby will become the Wellington manager. . Mr Porter was bom at wairoa, Hawke's Bay, and joined the Bank of New Zealand in 1904 at Queenstown. From 1910 until 1919 he was in the head office, and after receiving appointment as assistant accountant m Wellington was transferred to a similar position in Christchurch in 1921 He was subsequently appointed manager at Ashburton in 1922, manager at Invercargill in 1924, and went to Suva in 1926 as th'e bank’s manager in Fiji. During 1928 and 1929 he was attached to the London office as assistant to the manager. In the two following years, until his return to Christchurch in 1931, he did inspection work in Australia and New Zealand. In 1932 Mr Porter was promoted _ from assistant manager to manager in Christchurch, a position which he has since held. INTERIM DIVIDEND (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 21. The directors of the Bank of New Zealand announce an interim dividend of Is a share on ordinary shares and of 3,i per. cent, on the D (long term) mortgage shares, to be paid in New Zealand currency on December 10.
