MANCHESTER UNITY
The meeting of Loyal Centenary Lodge, held on Monday evening, was presided over by N.G. Bro. A. Lysaght, the attendance being fair. Bro. Shore, now residing in Christchurch, was granted a clearance to the North Canterbury district. The challenge from Loyal Valley, which had been accepted, was deferred from the original date to the first meeting in November when the possession of the Debating Shield, now held by Centenary, will be at stake. Loyal Albion paid an official visit with a full complement of officers and members. It was resolved to return the compliment on Thursday evening. On the recess being taken brethren were the guests of Bros. Mercer and Preston at a card tournament. the Prov. G.M. securing the honours, and the “ booby ’’ prize going to a member of Loyal Albion. Loyal Caversham Lodge, under the guidance of N.G. Bro. Dickson, had an excellent meeting on Wednesday evening. Discussion connected with tne holding of the annual elderly members’ night ensued, and it was decided that this would take the form of a smoke social. At the conclusion of business an enjoyable young folks dance was held. .. N.G. Bro. Graveson presided over a good attendance of Loyal Albion on Thursday evening. The .sick pay ot the lodge is still exceptionally high. Business under the adjourned summoned meeting was quickly disposed of it being resolved to purchase a new set of regalia for officers’ use. A sum of money was transferred from the management to the social fund in view of the holding of the lodge anniversary on October 28 to. which sister lodges were cordially invited. Congratulations and good wishes were extended to I.P.N.G. Bro. M. Poulter on the occasion of his marriage. The attendance was augmented, by representatives of Loyal Victoria, Princess Mary, Centenary, Valley, Prince of Wales Caversham, Dunedin and Hand and Heart Lodges, together with the provincial grand master and the provincial treasurer. A feature of the entertainment was the presence of Bro. R McKenzie. Dr Noel North and Sister West, the South Dunedin community sing combination, who assumed control of proceedings and carried on for an hour. They were heartily thanked for their efforts. Bros. Romenl and Russell also contributed to the harmony. after which an hour’s dancing was indulged in.
