SCIENCE AND WARFARE
TO THE EDITOK Sir—l take the following excerpt from your leading article of to-day under the above heading: “ But if the causes of war are at least as much psychological as economic, etc.” The question is, what do you mean to convey by the use of the word “ psychological ”? If we turn to the Bible we find that “ we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, and powers, and world rulers; against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” In Revelation, also (ch. 12), we are told that “There was war in Heaven; Michael going forth to war; and the dragon warred and his angels. In ch 9 we are told that “the armies which are in heaven followed him on white horses.” As a matter of fact, 1 would say that war is almost, if not, wholly psychological, and that, under the rule of Hitler, the greater part of Germany is obsessed by these evil forces and one might almost say the same of Italy. The beautiful Christ-like effort made by the Prime Minister will beat them yet, though it may take some time longer than we care to contemplate. One cannot make an effort of this kind without being rewarded—l am, etc.. Nemo.
