LAST TRIBUTES

LATE MAYOR OF INVERCARGILL (Special to Uailt Times) INVERCARGILL. Sept. 22. Invercargill and other parts of New Zealand paid their last tribute, to the late Mayor (Mr John Miller) this afternoon, when thousands of people attended the funeral, which left First Presbyterian Church in Tay street for the Eastern Cemetery. The church was crowded long before the time for the service and a huge crowd assembled in the street to watch the casket borne outside after the service and to join the cortege to the graveside. The Civic Band and the Battalion Boys’ Band were in attendance and slow music was played by the boys’ band before the service started The ceremony in the church was a brief, but impressive, one. The attendance was thoroughly representative of the public life of the city, and visitors from other cities included the Mayor. Deputy Mayor, and town clerk of Dunedin (Messrs A. H Allen D. C. Cameron, and R. A Johnston) and the Mayor. Deputy Mavor. and town clerk of Christchurch (Messrs R M Macfarlane J W Beanland and J S. Neville). Among other local bodies renresented were the Invercargill City Council, the Southland Hospital Board, the Bluff Harbour. Board (he Invercargill Chamber o" Commerce. the Invercargill Fire Board, the Southland Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union, and the Agricultural and Pastoral Association
