AIR RAID PROTECTION

BROADCASTING STATION PRECAUTIONS IN LONDON LONDON, Sept. 12. Provision has been made by the British Broadcasting Corporation to carry on broadcasting even at the height of an air raid. At Broadcasting House it has completed four months’ work on a scheme by which the basement and sub-basement become a self-contained and bombproof broadcasting centre shut off from the rest of the building. A concert hall will be used as a gas proof chamber Special deep underground cables have been laid connecting the basement studios with distant transmitters. Structural alterations have strengthened the floor above the basement, while, in the event of an emergency, the use of the top floor control room will be discontinued. The power plant is situated in the basement, besides an artesian well, which gives an independent water supply. Thousands of sandbags have already been stored.
