HOLIDAY TOO LATE
Fifty-seven-year-old David Davies, of Treherbert, a village in Wales, had spent 40 years in the mine without a holiday. He was planning his first week’s rest with pay—and when his railway ticket to Devon arrived from a relative, Davies hurried to the manager of the Bute Colliery, to get permission. He collapsed and died at the manager’s feet.
