WOMEN'S HOCKEY
DOMINION TOURNAMENT SOUTHLAND TEAM IN FINAL IPer United Pbess Association) GISBORNE, Sept. 2. The women's hockey championship tournament was continued today. Eastern defeated Canterbury in the semi-final by three goals to nil in a spectacular game played at a torrid pace throughout. Eastern scored 15 minutes after th start, but had not a decided advantage till 10 minutes before the close of the game, when two quick goals came after a sustained attack. Miss Jones scored twice and" Miss Sherriff once. A heavy shower swept the field in the second spell, making the ground greasy. The final to-morrow is between Eastern and Ashburton. OTAGO v. NORTH OTAGO The A and B Grade matches v. North Otago, which were to have been played in Oamaru to-day, have been postponed, word having been received that the Oamaru hockey grounds are unfit for play. OTAGO v. SOUTHLAND The Southland team will arrive by the 11.15 a.m. express from Invercargill to-day. and will meet the local A Grade eleven on Oval No. 1 at 2.45 this afternoon. Messrs R. S. Wallace and T. M. Mulholland have been appointed to umpire the match. The teams will be entertained at a dinner at the Vedic in the evening.
