The Gift for Mr Jacobs

The proposal to send a letter and a small gift to W. W. Jacobs on his seventy-fifth birthday, which falls on September 8, has been supported by about 150 subscribers all over New Zealand. A small sil/er tankard, a greenstone paper knife, and a greenstone paper weitht have been chosen. The cup is engraved: "W. W. Jacobs, on his seventy-fifth birthday, in gratitude and admiration from New Zealand friends." With these gifts go a letter, a list of subcribers, and a sketch map of New Zealand, showing every town from which a subscription came. The place-names—3o or 40—mark the map evenly from Auckland to the Bluff. The arrangements for the presentation to Mr Jacobs will be made by Mr H. T. B. Drew, of New Zealand House.
