PALMERSTON

Rugby Football : The final of the Knockout Competition between Dunback and Palmerston A will be played on the Palmerston Show Grounds to-morrow. Mr C. M. Olsen has been appointed referee, Messrs' O’Reilly and McLew being umpires. The following have been selected to represent the Palmerston Club: —Adams, Earley, Burrow, McKnight, Strachan, Davis, Mitchell, Penny, Murdoch, Penny, Murray, Whittleston, Philip. Cameron. McGregor, Clearwater, Parkhill. Cameron, and Lowen.

Horticultural Society ; . p , . .. The annual meeting of the Palmerston and Waihemo Horticultural Society was held last week, Mr W. B. Galloway (president) presiding over a fair attendance of members. The balance sheet, which disclosed a credit balance of £24 6s 6d, was adopted. The president, reviewing the activities of the society during the past year, commented upon the lack of public interest. Although no financial losses had been incurred with the two shows held, the attendance of the public was: extremely poor. Other members present spoke in a similar strain, and expressed the hope that the coming year would see the residents of Palmerston display more interest in the society, especially during the show. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr A. JTastier; vice-presidents'—Mesdames Pennicuick and Stenhouse, Misses Catneron and Diack, Messrs Diack, Mcßae, and Pittaway; treasurer, Mr G. B. Smith; auditor, Mr A. A. McWilliam; secretary, to be appointed: committee— Mesdames Currie, Galloway and {Smith, Misses Ballingall, Creighton, ‘ 1 Gibb, McLaren, Stenhouse, Service, Badman and Cochrane, Messrs Appleby and Arnott. It was decided to hold a spring show in the Town Hall on September 30. and that letters of appreciation for past services be sent to Miss H. Challis (retiring secretary). Mr W. B. Galloway and Mr G. B. Smith. ■ The first committee meeting was set down for September 7, when the appointment of judges would be confirmed.
