COMBINED HUNT MEETING

(Special to Daily Times) WELLINGTON, Aug. .31,

The lull in the racing world will end to-morrow with the opening of the* combined hunt clubs' meeting at New Plymouth. This is the fifth occasion upon which the two clubs have run a two-day. meeting with a fixed venue, and it looks like being the most successful yet held. Not only are large fields engaged, but there is a good dasn of quality and plenty of visitors from far afield. There has been a fair amount of rain in the district during the week, but provided it does not rain on the day the going should be good, though it may be a bit on the soft side. The New Plymouth track is a turning one, about a mile in circumr ference. and has a,short run in. it favours smart horses, artd anything not reasonably well placed for the straight has a difficult task to get up for six and seven-furlong events. However, there is a good long straight stretch from the start, especially from the seven-furlong barrier. The win and place system of betting will be in operation, and the following horses may be supported in their engagements:— 12.0—Trial Hunters' Steeplechase.--Gay Maid. Lady Callaghan. and Anhoyer. 12.40 - Weraroa Stakes. First. Division: Lord Cavendish, Windsor Chief, and Rolling Home.
