A plea for direct representation of the seafairing profession in Parliament by appointment to the Legislative Council, was made by Captain W. Stuart v/hen proposing the toast of “ Parliament" at the annual smoke concert (if the New Zealand Company of Master Mariners. Members of Lie seafaring, profession, he said, were eacer to render service to the State, and thd.r knowledge and experience were at its disposal at any time -, The Minister of Marine (Mr P. Fraser), responding to the toast, commended the suggestion that the seafaring section of the community should be represented in Parliament, and said he certj’.inly would be pleased to make representations regarding the plea of Captain Stuart.
