ANNUAL TOURNAMENT EASTERN DEFEATS AUCKLAND (Per United Press Association) GISBORNE. Aug. 29. The women’s hockey tournament was continued in showery weather. The ground was slippery after heavy rain during the week-end. Eastern disposed of the toughest opposition In the B section by rattling on four goals in the second half against Auckland. Eastern and Taranaki lead in the B section. Canterbury has a three-point lead in the C section. and Ashburton is one point ahead of Wanganui in the A section. Results:— A Section Ashburton 3 goals. Hawke’s Bay 2 goals. ... Wanganui 3 goals, Manawatu 1 goal. B Section Eastern 4 goals, Auckland nil. Taranaki 2 goals, Wellington l.goal Poverty Bay B 3 goals, Ruahme ml. C Section Canterbury 8 goals, Nelson nil. Feilding 2 goals, Akitio 2 goals SELECTION OF TEST TEAMS CRITICISM OF METHOD (Per United Press Association> GISBORNE, Aug, 29 Criticism of the method of selecting the New Zealand women’s test teams this year was heard last night at a meeting of the managers of the women’s teams attending the Dominion tournament and it was decided to recommend that in future the New Zealand teams should be selected after trials between North Island and South Island teams. A complaint was also made that many new sticks failed to pass the test of the two-inch ring after being tested by the dealers, and it was decided to draw the attention of the Dominion Association to the point. It was also urged that a pro-perly-constituted conference be held yearly at the tournaments.
