A. recent addition to the collection of foreign birds in the Canterbury Museum is a tufted cardinal, a native of the United Slates. It was presented by Mr Roland Smith, of Christchurch, for whom it had won several prizes in shows. Every State in the United States has a particular bird as an emblem, and the cardinal is the emblem of Kentucky. It is noted for its melodious song. The museum occasionally receives specimens from aviculturists in the city, another recent acquisition being a paradise whydah bird from the aviary of the tea kiosk in the Botanic Gardens.
