THREAT OF A STRIKE

AUSTRALIAN MINERS ULTIMATUM TO BE SERVED SYDNEY, Aug 12. The Miners' Federation Convention endorsed the Central Council's recommendation that the Federal and State Governments and colliery proprietors should be served with an ultimatum giving them 14 days in which to reply to the miners' claims. The ultimatum will probably be issued next week. The Greater Newcastle Council will ask both the Commonwealth and State Governments to intervene in the mining dispute and to consider the whole question of rehabilitation of the coal industry. CONFERENCE WITH PREMIER SYDNEY, Aug. 12. (Received Aug. 13, at 1.30 a.m.) The coalminers' delegates to-day had a conference with the Premier (Mr B. S. Stevens) on the composition and the scope of the special tribunal offered to miners for the investigation of their grievances. The miners' convention will hear a report on the subject on Monday.
