The monthly meeting of the North Otago Federation was held on Tuesday last, and was presided over by Mrs Webster. Details were finalised in connection with the forthcoming drama festival. The half-yearly meeting will be held on September 30. During afternoon tea, which was served by Mrs Mays, the president took the opportunity of presenting Mrs Morrison with a small gift from her fellow-members, expressing their regret at her departure from their midst.

The August meeting of the Popotunoa Institute was presided over by Mrs Sanders. The motto was " There s ave a muckle slippy stane at ilka body's door," and the roll-call was "Guessing the identities of photos.' An interesting report by Miss Collins on the conference held at Wellington wss read. Members brought books for the institute library. Miss M. Wilson gave an interesting demonstration on silk art work, this being followed by a demonstration on wool purses by Mrs Kee. The hostesses were Mesdames Simmers and McKenzie.

Mrs Morrison presided at the monthly meeting of the Clinton Institute, when the motto was "Kind

thoughts are the golden, rivets which help to hold together the splintered base of human happiness." The rollcall was, "My Ideal Holiday." A demonstration was given on the making of fancy butter by Mrs Laurence, of Taumata, who also judged the competitions. These resulted as follows: Bran biscuits—Mrs Forrest, 1; Mrs Corbett, 2; Mrs West, 3; best bloom—Mrs Morrison, 1; Mrs Corbet, 2; Mrs Brown. 3. Mrs Harris reported on the Dominion Federation Conference. The hostesses were Mesdames McCormick and Wither and Miss Gladwin.

The sixth birthday party of the Waikouaiti Institute was held on Wednesday last, when the evening was spent in dancing, interspersed with items. The president (Mrs Lang) welcomed the visitors. Items were given by Mrs McLeod (song), Miss MacGregbr (tap dancing). Mrs Jenkins (recitation), Mrs Park and Miss Diack (pianoforte duet). Mr Leckie (bagpipe solo), Women's Institute members (Dutch songs, and a play, "Np. 10). The lucky spot waltz was won by Miss Clark and Mr Griffiths, and the lucky cup by Mrs Ferguson (Waitati). The three-tier birthday cake was cut by a past president, Mrs Jenkins. Music for dancing was supplied by the Commodore Band, while Miss Park acted as pianist, and Mr C. McCallum as M.C. Mr A. Fell (Mayor) spoke appreciatively of the work and assistance given by members of the Women's Institute.
