MUSICAL BALL

STRIKINGLY DECORATED HALL With each succeeeding ball held in Dunedin it appears that the organisers leave no stone unturned to achieve a note of distinction in the art of decorations. The Main Town Hall has been " dressed " in many and effective styles from time to time, and on Thursday night, when the Dunedin Choral Society staged the musical ball as part of its seventy-fifth anniversary celebrations, the ballroom presented a scene which was a tribute to the enthusiasm of the decorators. Orange and blue streamers were prominent, while the musical motif, a silver lyre and a representation of four bars of music, suspended above the stage, which stood out in bold relief against a background of coloured lights and greenery, made a most attractive setting. The music was rendered by the Savonia Band and the society's symphony orchestra. Added attractions of the ball were the presentation by members of the Lily Stevens School of Dancing and a demonstration of the "Blue Danube" waltz by Miss Vivienne Lamb and Mr Cecil Cockburn. The official party included the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) and Mrs Allen, the latter wearing a handsome gown of black velvet, with a corsage spray of orange flowers, Mr and Mrs Alfred Fels (graceful frock of floral ninon), Mr and Mrs A.
