AN IRRESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —While awaiting my turn in the Post Office Savings Bank the other day I was struck by the anxious look on the faces of some of the pensioners who were there. As they all appeared to be in good health and the sun was shining brightly, this anxiety puzzled me. x Perhaps they were wondering how they would fare in a year or two, if Labour is retained in power for another term. At the rate at which the Government is squandering money on unprofitable undertakings, and in view of the inflation which will no Joubt result from its actions, the outlook is not promising. And if the country were to go bankrupt it is the poor who would suffer most, not the big capitalists who have been able to send money to Australia. I daresay there are a good many who have little nest eggs over there, ready to retire if calamity should overtake our country. Mr Hamilton has said the National Party will not reduce pensions, and I think his word can be relied on. If those who are drawing pensions wish to continue doing so. therefore, the only thing to do is to replace the present irresponsible party with a sane financial Government:—l am, etc.. J. D. M.
