The' fortnightly meeting' of Court Pride of the Leith was held on Wednesday [ last, when there a good attendance of members with the OR. Bro. C.iH. A. Slack in charge. The meeting opened in mourning in memory of T the late Brother E. W. Gaudin, who had passed away that day. Motions of sympathy with the relatives of .the late member, and' also with Bro. F. W. Farrell in the loss ot his wife,; were passed in the usual manner. The meeting accepted invitations from Courts Little 4phn, Pride of Green Island, and Pride of Dunedin. The annual invitation from the Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge, M.U'., was also accepted. The four senior officers werie appointed to represent the court at the meeting of Court Little John, i Permission was granted Court King Edward's Pride to initiate a candidate.; The Toast of.the Visitors was responded to by C.R. Bro. Stephens oh behalf of Court King Edward's and he thanked the court for assisting in the initiation Of the candidate. The balance sheet for the past half-year was read by auditor P.C.R. Bro.iW. J. Duncan, who, along with Auditor P.C.R. Bro. H. W. Cockburn, gave qheir reports 6n the audit. The balance sheet showed that the court was in a healthy position; the membership lat the end of June was 883. Duringj the half-year the court lost eight members, and the wives of two membjers by death. The amount paid out in sick pay was above normal, the I figures being £517 15s. and funeral allowances accounted for £3OO. The management expenses for the six months amounted to £623 16s Id, (and £IOB was distributed' to members !for maternity allowances. It was resolved that the seventy-fourth anniversary be celebrated on similar lines to lastj year. Two nominations for membership were accepted for next meeting before closing the court. Court King; Edward's Pride held its fortnightly meeting on Thursday last, when C.R. Bro. 1 Stephens occupied the chair, with 4 full muster of officers. All received were accepted. A welcome uias extended to the judges of the general efficiency competition— Bros. Wood [ and Wilson—who gave good advice ito the officers in their ritual work, j The balance sheet for the half-year, was submitted by Bro. Dyke and the secretary, Bro. Jones.
