Mr E. Fowler left on his return to Palmerston North by the midday express yesterday. Mr J. E. Macassey was a passenger for Wellington by the .through express yesterday.
Messrs J. W. Munro M.P. and P. Neilson, M.P., left for Wellington by the midday express yesterday. Messrs H. H. Sykes and W. R. Brow., left by the through express yesterday for Wellington to attend a meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants. Mr W. Bryant, of Otokia, was a passenger -by the through express yesterday lor Wellington to attend a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Producers' Co-operative Marketing Association.
At a meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Caledonian Society last evening it was mentioned that Mr John Ogs, a pioneer member of the society, had that day celebrated his ninetyfirst birthday. It was decided to convey the society's greetings to Mr Ogg. Mr T. Kane, president of the New Zealand Educational Institute, arrived from the north by the afternoon express yesterday and in the evening addressed a meeting of the Otago branch of the institute
A Press Association cable from London states that Mr J. W. Davidson, M.A., has been elected to a Strathcona research studentship at St. John's College, Cambridge. Mr Davidson, who took first-class honours in history at Victoria College last year, is at present on the research staff of the Centennial branch of the Internal Affairs Department.
The Union Airways liner Kotuku left the Taieri airport at 8.15 yesterday morning for Christchurch. Blenheim, and Palmerston North with Mr C. M. Richwhite for Christchurch. The Konmako arrived from the north at 2.45 p m with Mr L. Hudson from Wellington and Mr M. R. Murphy from Christchurch.
Mrs W A. Holman. wife of a former Premier of New South Wales, arrived in Dunedin yesterday to deliver addresses in the interests of the Spanish Medical Aid Committee. Mrs Holman has been in New Zealand for a fortnight during which she has spoken at meetings at several centres, as well as giving radio talks. She will address the members of several organisations in Dunedin, and will speak at a public meeting to-morrow night on "Spain's Strategical Value to Great Britain." Mrs Holman's daughter is secretary of the London branch of the organisation, and has twice visited Spain. Mrs Holman stated yesterday that ambulances were the greatest need in the war area, and the New South Wales organisation had provided five of these in a period of two months All funds were sent to the Central Committee in Paris, which distributed them as they were needed.
