ALLEGED EMBEZZLEMENT UNABLE TO FACE INQUIRY NEW YORK, July 20. Mr Dewey’s campaign to smash local rackets and to prosecute prominent persons resulted in the suicide of the State senator, Julius Berg, in his law office He told his wife that there was too much involved for him to face an investigation. Following his death, it transpired that the grand jury secretly indicted Senator Berg on 17 counts of embezzlement, grand larceny, and false representation.
