FORMER LEGISLATORS BENEFITS ALSO TO WIDOWS ANNUITIES TOTALLING £6200 (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) , WELLLNGTON, July 21. An appropriation of £0257 to provide annuities for persons having special claims on the Crown is contained in the Estimates for the Pensions Department. Last year the amount voted was £6218, of which £5974 was expended. It has been a custom for many years to grant these annuities, the persons concerned Including ex-members of the Legislature and widows of ex-members. Grants of £l2O each are to be made to the following ex-members of Parlla-ment:—-Mr C. H. Clinkard, Mr A. E, Glover, Mr J. D. Hogan, and Mr C. E. Major. To Mr F. N, Bartrum, Mr J. S. Dickson, Mr V. H. Potter, Mr T. W. Rhodes, and Mr W. T. Wood, ex-M.P.’s, a grant of £IOO each is to be made, while Mr T. Buxton is to receive £95. Mr G. Witty, ®x-M.L.C.> is to be granted £l2O. Widows of ex-members of the Legislature who are to receive the State Bounty are Lady Pomare, £150; Lady Fowlds, Mrs H. Barr, Mrs A. Holland, and Mrs M. Mills, £l2O each: Mrs K. Colvin, Mrs K. T. Dickie'Mrs G. M. Eamshaw, Mrs A. E. Ell,- Mrs. M. Hall, Mrs B. Hogg, Mrs M. Horn. Mrs A. M. Isitt, Mrs H. H. Jenklnson, Mrs H. M. Russell. £IOO each; Mrs L. V. Fitchett and Mrs E. M. McKenzie, £75 each. ■ Provision is also made for gtants of £l5O to Mr P. Hally. ex-Concihation Commissioner; £l2O to Mrs M. M. Bickerton, widow of Professor A. W. Bickerton; £IOO each to Mr J. Cowan and Miss J. McKay for contributions to New Zealand literature; £97 to Mrs L. Hood, widow of Captain Hood, who was lost while attempting to fly across the Tasmen; and £SO to Miss L. Wakefield, granddaughter of Edward Gibbon Wakefield. . . . Elsewhere in the Pensions Department Estimates provision is made for an annuity of £2OO to Lady Salmond. and one of £l5O to the daughter of the late Sir William Fraser.
