BADMINTON
VISITING AUSTRALIAN TEAM SOUTHLAND HEAVILY DEFEATED (Per United Press Association) INVERCARGILL, July 2. Before a packed gallery, the visiting Australian badminton team defeated Southland by the overwhelming score of eight games to nil. Although the visitors won their games fairly comfortably, the local players gave sufficient opposition to make their opponents give of their best, and badminton of a high standard resulted. The ' following are the results (Australian names given first): — Men’s Singles.—Craske beat Strang, 15—0, 15—0; Thompson beat McCallum, 15—5, 15 —4. Women’s Singles.—Miss Horsburgh beat Mrs Salisbury, 15—3, 15—2; Miss Cuthbertson beat Miss Cutt, 15—2, 15—3. Men’s Doubles.—Craske and Thompson beat Strang and Glennie, 15—11, 15—11. Women’s Doubles. —Misses Horsburgh and Cuthbertson beat Mrs Salisbury and Miss Woods, 15—3, 15—5. Mixed Doubles.—Craske and Miss Cuthbertson beat Glennie and Mrs Salisbury, 15—3, 15—8; Thompson and Miss Horsburgh beat Strang and Miss Woods, 15—9, 15—8.
