TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel Manna's Son Manna’s Son will be trained In Canterbury by R. Franks. Manna’s Son reached a mark in Auckland on which his opportunities were limited owing to the loose classes. Should he regain form, however, he will have prospects in the South Island. Records Two records for urihoppled pacers were established during the season about to close. At Hamilton Nervie’s Last registered 2min 4 2-ssee in beating Lawn Derby from a moving start, and at Auckland Lawn Derby stepped 4mln 17 3-ssec from a flat start. Parisienne Parisienne. winner of the championship points at the inter-State carnival, is only a four-year-old, and, in being assessed at 4min 22sec has the distinction of being the youngest pacer to reach the high line. She has the Unique record of being the best of her age at two, three, and four years. Parisienne, who was bred at the Mardella stud, lost her dam when only a few weeks old. and was “bottle” reared. A Select Class

Many people are already selecting the horses likely to be invited to compete in the special pacers-trotters’ event in August. If the handicapping table is the basis of the invitations, the six pacers must be Indianapolis. Willow Wave. Lucky Jack. Pot Luck. Parisienne, and Red Shadow, with Lawn Derby replacing Red Shadow if he should come across. It is possible (says the Timaru Herald), however, that the committee will go up the scale and consider U. Scott and Supertax, two horses on 4min 25sec. In the trotters’ division, Sea Gift. Todd Lonzia, Trampfast, Norma Bingen. Waikato Prince, Captain Bolt. Wahnooka, Discord, and Peggotty are mentioned, but Todd Lonzia. Trampfast, and Norma Bingen are not in commission and could hardly be ready at short notice.

Sylvan The Nelson trainer L. F. Berkett can always be relied upon to unearth a promising trotter, and the latest to gain prominence is Sylvan, who scored three firsts, five seconds, and one third in 11 outings this season. She is solid and possesses a splendid burst of speed, and (says an exchange) there should be a bright future in store for her. She is bred in Southland, and is by Nelson Bingen from Glade, and is thus a full-sister to Gyrate and Ballade, and a half-sister to Final McKinney, who has taken a record of 2min 10 3-ssec. Glade was by Logan Pointer from Merce, the dam of Merce Pointer, Guard. Sunspeck. Merce Bingen. Sunspot, and others. Merce was a daughter of Galindo and Authoress, the dam of that one-time champion Author Dillon. The dam of Authoress is Thelma, who has proved one of the foundation mares in trotting throughout the last decade or more. Like most of the progeny of Nelson Bingen, Sylvan can act in any kind of going, and this will be a decided point in her favour in the future. TRENTHAM TRACK WORK ALUNGA GALLOPS WELL (Per Ukiteu Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 2. Interest in the gallops at Trentham this morning centred in the efforts of the visitors, and some useful performances were registered on the flat, over the hurdles and over country. A thick mist obscured the track early, and as a consequence work was not commenced till about 9 o’clock The trial grass was heavy but considerably better than earlier in the week. The best effort on the flat was credited to Alunga, who ran away from Hunting Blood at the conclusion of five furlongs in Imin 6sec, the last half taking 52 2-ssec This was a very good gallop on the part of Alunga, although he had a concession in weight. Sunbeam pleased in finishing some lengths clear of Mother-m-Law over half a mile in 53 3-ssec. Potent just shaded Rebel Mate after traversing five furlongs in Imin 7 2-ssec, the last half-mile in 53 2-ssec. Both horses look very well. Arctic King was a neck in front of Lazybones at the completion of six furlongs in Imin 21 2-ssec the final half occupying 54 2-ssec. Fairy Dale and Protectress were on terms after covering five furlongs in Imin 9sec. the last half-mile in 55sec. Others doing serviceable work included El Melnell, Great Pal, Sweet Rose, Superior Guard and General Ruse,

Over six hurdles Courtyard (H. Brown) impressed more than Sunee (D. Gordon).

Full o’ Scotch (B. Sullivan) shaped attractively in a bout over four hurdles with Kilberis (Trillo). The former is a quick and clever jumper. Jewish Lad (Sullivan) gave a faultless exhibition in company with Laggard (McCauley) and Sunder (Sager), all shaping satisfactorily, although Laggard got in a bit close at the last fence.

Araios (D. Bush) was sent over a couple of hurdles, giving a safe playRed Sun (Reardon) fenced with precision over five hurdles and the brush fence twice, never putting a foot wrong. Southern Blood (Reardon) did not have much pace on when sent over two hurdles, and screwed both obstacles. There were only two bouts of schooling over the big fences, which comprised the sod wall, two boarded fences and the big brush and boards near the straight entrance. All Irish (O’Connor) and Erination (Sagar) went together, but Erination made a bad landing after clearing the second fence, and dropped his rider. All Irish continued on to give a faultless exhibition. Erination was remounted, and traversed a round on the flat. Santoft (Salt) and Bryce Street (Trillo) were associated over five fences, both making no mistakes. Santoft looks in much better order than was expected, and shows no signs of sorepess or any other trouble. Among other jumpers on the scene are Kinkle. Smilin’ Thru. Scrap and Primak. , , , Tail-light has been rehandicapped at 10.4 in the Vittoria Hurdles.
