OTAGO WOMEN’S HOCKEY TEAM
ro THE EDITOR
Sir, —May I be granted space in your paper to criticise the selection of the Otago women’s representative hockey team? It appears to me that the backs are again to stand the brunt of things in the matches, and will, as of yore, be able to witness their efforts being wasted by the forwards, as A. Harley and J. Arnott are the only forwards in the present line worthy of the name. E. Sonntag is a good innerleft, but is not nearly fast enough for the wing, and if the three forwards of Kings had to be in the team why not select them in their own positions where they have a good combination? N. Cannon is not deserving a place as a forward, and will (in my estimation and, I think, that of many others) be more hindrance than help to her side. While J. Thomson, at right-wing, is certainly fast, she has no control \ over the ball and no good stick work, and, to judge from the way she stands offside in club matches, she would not appear to be as conversant with the rules as she should be. A. Marshall, of University, is. in the opinion of most players, the best right-wing in the competition at present.—-I am. etc., Give the Game a Chance.
