CITED IN AWARD PROCEEDINGS ATTENDANTS AND CARETAKERS I ' (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND. June 15. An application to join as parties almost all of the sports bodies in Auckland was made in a dispute brought before the Conciliation Council by the Northern Industrial Front of House Theatre Employees’ Union. . It was proposed by the union that the award it sought should apply to all employees other than projectionists, musicians, and persons preparing food at any agricultural exhibition or show, cabaret, kinema, circus, cricket ground, cycle exhibition, night club, racecourse, skating rink, stadium, speedway, tennis ground, theatre, zoological park, or any other place where boxing, concert, dramatic, operatic, vaudeville, wrestling, or other entertainments were held and for which there was a charge for admission. It was intended that the award should apply to “ voluntary ” workers. various sports and other bodies applied to be removed from the dispute, and their applications were referred to the Court of Arbitration.

The dispute was heard before the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr R E Price).

Increases in wages were appli . for and the following were the pronosed rates, the nresent rates bein'* shown in parentheses:—Caretakers. £5 12s 6d a week (city theatres £4 12s. suburban £4 fs). Continuous shows—female ticket sellers. £3 2s 6d (£1 15s): ushers £3 f£l 16s); other female attendants, £2 17s 6d (£1 16s): male ticket takers. £4 5s t£3 16s) Night shows —announcers, 15- a nerformance (city ss. outside 4s 6d): ticket sellers, 9s 6d (ss); ushers. 9s (city ss, outsid° 4s 6d); all othe»- attendants. 8s 6d fcity 5s ‘ outside 4s 6d).

The emnloyers’ counter-proposal,-were for the rrtes and nrovisions of the nre.-ent award. with the exception of five new small clauses. No agreement wa« reached, the whole dispute bein'? referred to the court.
