ro rm? EDITOII Sir,—l notice in one of your recent issues Captain Gaffaney advocating that the above well-known property be converted into a war veterans’ home. He seems to assume that this is the only possible use to which it can be put. just because it has remained idle for a few years. He should know that it was handed over to the Dunedin municipality for the express purpose of a vice-regal establishment in our midst. He ought also to know that the North Island possesses two of these official residences, and it is high time that the South Island had at least one Why . should not Dunedin be the proud city, to house its Governor-General, if only for a short period once in a while? It would surely add to the prestige of our city. He ought also to know that, falling the above pteferentia 1 use (or this property, there are other equally deserving sections of the community which are worthy' of consideration besides the Returned Soldiers’ Association. These returned men are not the only class of citizens who deserve well of the community Would it not be wise for our City Fathers to investigate these other aspects of the case without establishing this soldiers’ home?
