BILLIARDS

HANDICAP TOURNAMENT PROCTOR BEATS HAYDEN In the final of the handicap billiards tournament played at the R.S.A. Club Rooms last evening, an interesting game was witnessed by a large gathering of enthusiasts between Proctor and Hayden. Proctor played very consistently in the early stages and considerably reduced the handicap of 185 points which he was conceding to his opponent. At the twentieth visit the score read 213—100 in Hayden’s favour, and the latter, playing several good shots, kept scoring steadily till at the fortyfifth visit the scratch man was still 130 points behind. When the score read 436—331 Hayden appeared to he a likely winner, but Proctor gradually reduced the lead, and, principally _by means of a good break of 37 compiled at the top of the table, established a lead of 21 points. A spell of safety play followed, but Proctor maintained his advantage, and won by 19 points, the final scores being: Proctor 500. Hayden 481. At the conclusion of the game the trophies—a gold medal to the winner and a cue to the runner-up—were presented by Mr H, G. Siedeberg.
