POET STUDENT OF STARS
BAILIFF AND HOROSCOPE <From Olr Own Correspondent) (By Air Mail) LONDON, May 21. At Clerkenwell Police Court two days ago, Count Potocki of Montalk, was sued for possession of rooms in Lamb’s Conduit street, W.C.. and for rent. Dressed in a crimson cloak over a crimson toga-like garment, with sandals on his unstockinged feet, and hair hanging far down his back, the quondam New Zealander, conducted his own defence. Ho counter-claimed for damages on various grounds. Cross-examined by Mr L. I. Gunn, Count Potocki, who said he was a poet, stated that when Mr J. S. Murphy, a bailiff, called, be asked him to sit down while he “did a rough horoscope of the event.” Asked why he gave certain sums of money to the bailiff, Count Potocki said; "It seemed from the horoscope he was quite harmless.” Mr Gunn: Were they not lust presents? —No, I liked him. I always did like Irish people, but I gave him two cheques to prevent him distraining. The horoscope said he was an angel in disguise, so I did not resist his demands as I should otherwise have done. The hearing was adjourned for further evidence as to whether the premises are decontrolled.
