CHECK ON FOREIGN DOCTORS FRESH COURSE REQUIRED (From Our Own Correspondent) SYDNEY. May 23. Foreign doctors will be stopped from practising in New South Wales until they have taken medical courses for three years in Sydney University, under the previsions of the Medical Practitioners Bill, which will be introduced early in the next Parliamentary session. The Bill will repeal the amending Act of 1915, prohibiting German and Austrian subjects from practising in the State. It will place all foreign medical graduates on the same basis In order to obtain registration in the State they must, in addition to holding their foreign degrees, complete fourth, fifth, and sixth years in Medicine at the University. Reciprocity and registration are provided for Great Britain. Ireland, and British Dominions, as well as for other Australian States. The provisions in the bill dealing with foreign doctors are contingent upon complete reciprocal arrangements between the countries affected The measure will set up a special committee io deal with patients’ protests against excessive fees. This will be a kind of conciliation agency. After inquiry, the committee will establish a basis of settlement. The Bill will also wage war against “ quack ” doctors. No graduate will be entitled to full registration until he has been a resident doctor at a public hospital or clinic for a year.
