Raphis Raphls, a three-year-old sister to Phar Lap, is in woi& at Riccarton. She missed when bred to a sire and may be raced before returning to the paddock. Future Events Entries for future events in the Dominion are due on June 10. The Wellington Racing Club’s classic programme is the same as in previous years, but with an addition of £IOO to the stake for next year’s St. Leger. The Wellesley, Wellington and North Island Challenge Stakes are worth £6OO each, and the St. Leger £SOO. Owners will note that the entry is for next year’s St. Leger, not the 1940, so that it is now two-year-olds who are

eligible for nomination. A decision about a 1940 St. Leger has not yet been made by the stewards, the fate of this r.’assic depending in part upon the support that is received for the 1939 St. Leger. Rehand icapping The change from fixed penalties to re-handicapping winners after the declaration of weights has been growing in favour, but so far no limitation has been generally adopted in connection with a rehandicap. The conditions attached to the Melbourne Cup read as follows; The winner of any handicap flat race or races of the value ,to the winner of £IOOO or over, after declaration of weights, to carry such additional weight (if any) for each win as the handicapper shall determine Uiot exceeding in the aggregate 101 b). When a horse has become liable to be rehandicapped the extra weight (if any) to be imposed on such horse shall be' declared by the handicapper not later than midday on the Monday following the conclusion of the meeting at which such horse became liable to be rehandicapped, except that any additional weight to be imposed on the winner of the Cantala Stakes shall be declared by the handicapper not later than 7 o’clock on the night of that race.
