May 30. , Ray Steele, one of the foremost wrestlers in the world, made his first appearance in New Zealand in a match to-night when he defeated Abe Yourist in the fifth round, the latter being unable to continue after being picked up and slammed. Yourist cnened this round with two flying tackles, which his opponent followed by the application of a toehold, out of which Your? ist kicked himself, Steele then lifted his man bodily and crashed hin. to the mat, finishing oil with a body press'. During the interval between the rounds and for some time afterwards Yourist writhed on the floor, holdin? his head. The application oi wet sponges failed to revive him, and after the referee had declared Steele the winner, Yourist received medical attention. A professional wrestling contest to,-: night between Pat Meehan (Canada); 16.4 and Andy Moen (United States) 16.8 resulted in a draw. Moen secured a fall with a body press 30 seconds after the start of the first round, and Meehan equalised with a body press in the sixth. . FRALEY BEATS BLOMFIELD t (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 30. Unusually clean, hard and straight wrestling ■ distinguished the FraleyBlomfield wrestling match at the Town Hall in Wellington to-night, Pat Fraley winning by a single fall. Fraley’s coup was made with a. flying toe hold in the fifth round. Blomfield, after resisting for some moments, yielded a submission fall. Two rounds later he clamped on his octopus hold, but was unable to rise to his feet to complete the movement, the gong saving Fraley. Throughout the last round Fraley ran away from Blomfleld, escaping time after time through the ropes. The bout was watched by a packed house, but, although Fraley’s prolonged retreat in the last round drew laughter and a few programmed were thrown, the decision was received by the majority of the onlooker* with equanimity. f
