AN APPEAL
TO THE EDITOR Sir,—Remembering the wonderful response to an appeal made by me some two years ago, I have no hesitation in asking you to give prominence to this one, which is made on behalf of a family, comprising two adults and three young children. The man has been in various public works camps during the past few years, and health reasons in connection with his family have brought him to town to live. From inquiries made, he is a sober, industrious fellow, and one who liates to ask for charity. The case was brought to the notice of the Necessitous Cases Committee of the Mayor's Relief Organisation, and immediate relief in essentials was granted by it. Feeling sure that many items of furniture, floor coverings, curtains, and the like may be stowed away in the houses of some of your readers, the committee has asked me to give publicity to the case Will readers take a look round their comfortable home and picture it under the conditions set out here:—One double bed and one cot for two adults and three children (two of whom are of school age), a shop counter cut down for a table, and a stool for seating accommodation. No floor coverings and very few curtains, draughts blowing through the floors, and under the doors. These are the actual conditions existing in this home to-day. Will anyone having spare furniture, furnishings, or any useful articles, suitable for this case, kindly forward to the Mayor's Relief Organisation, 24a George street, City, or ring No. 11-533, when arrangements will be made to collect them? —I am. etc., David S. Sharp, Secretary to the Necessitous Cases Committee, Mayor's Relief Organisation. Dunedin. May 27.
