"THE VAGABOND KING"
SHOW WEEK ATTRACTION Commencing a seven-mgm season at His Mayesty's Thpatre next Saturday, " The Vagabond King " will be presented by the Dunedin Operatic Society as a Show Week attraction Over 100 performers will appear before the footlights, and costumes have been specially imported foi the production As these are the original costumes used in the recent London presentation, it is claimed that " The Vagabond King " will be be one of the most lavish productions witnessed ori the Dunpdin stage Heading the cast are Miss Reta Stone and Mr James Macfarlane as Katherine and Francois and included in their numbers will be " Only a Rose," " To-morrow," "Love Me To-night,' and "Some Day." Mr Macfarlane will also sing the well-known 'Song ot the Vagabonds." Miss Freda Elmes, as Huguette. has two solos. Love for Sale" and " Hearts May Flower, while the comedians, Messrs Lawson and Murphy, with Miss Tui Northey as Lady May. will sing the number " Lullaby." Mr Donald Munro's bass voice will be heard in " The Song of the Archers" Mrs John Hamer, is seen as Marqot. keeper of the tavern, and the difficult role of Louis XI has been entrusted to Mr Richard White, with Mr S. G Lock as Tristan, Mr John Gordon as Rene, and Mr Mark Gaston as Casin. Mr Jack Johnson as the courtier. Mr E. W Griffiths as Thibant, and Mr E. Omber as the Burgundian Herald also give valuable support. The chorus is under the baton ol Mr James Clark, who will also conduct the orchestra of 18 players. Mr Stan Lawson is responsible for the whole production with Miss Rosetta Powell as ballet mistress. Further particulars are advertised.
