OFFICIAL FORECAST COLD BUT FINE The following is the official weather forecast:— Pressure is low to the east, and stormy conditions prevail there, but an anti-cyclone is advancing from the Tasman Sea on to the Dominion. Indications are for:— Winds.—Moderate to strong southerly winds of gale force at first in some exposed positions about and north of Cook Srtait, but moderating. Seas. —New Zealand waters: Rough to high at first in the Cook Strait area, rough elsewhere north of Farewell Spit and between Banks Peninsula and East Cape, but otherwise moderate, and gradually decreasing generally. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong southerly winds and rough seas, but wind and sea moderating Weather. —• Changeable, with scattered passing showers at first in North Auckland and between Banks Peninsula and East Cape, but Improving, and elsewhere fine; temperatures cold, with some sharp frosts. Light showers in the morning were followed by a beautifully fine and sunny afternoon. The temperatures were mild, with a moderate to fresh south-westerly wind. The maximum temperature was 63 degrees. The barometer rose steadily during the day. the reading at 5 p.m. being 29.95 mches. WELLINGTON. May 20. The weather to-day was changeable, with occasional drops of rain. There was a southerly gale blowing. The temperatures were cold. The minimum temperature last night was 44.9 degrees, and the maximum to-day 50.5 degrees. At 3 p.m. the barometer reading was 30.021 inches. CHRISTCHURCH. May 20.

After a dull morning light rain began to fall about the middle of the afternoon, but ceased in the evening. The day was cold, with a strong southwest wind. The barometer rose steadily, the reading at 7.30 p.m. being 30.25 inches.
