OFFICIAL FORECAST COOL CHANGE EXPECTED The following is the official weather forecast: — The recent anticyclone is moving away eastward. A rather deep depression is advancing across the south Tasman Sea, while another is approaching Norfolk Island from the north. Pressure has risen over eastern Australia. Indications are for:— Winds.—Moderate to strong northeast to northerly, reaching gale force in some exposed positions, a change to southerlies commencing in the south and gradually extending northwards. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Rather rough to rough north of East Cape and the Cook and Foveaux Strait areas and south of Hokitika; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong northerly winds, but a change to south-wester-lies advancing from the west and south-west; seas rather rough to rough. Weather.—Mainly fair at first, but clouding over, and rain gradually developing in northern and western districts, with some heavy falls in the north; temperatures mild, but a cool change later in the south. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN Yesterday was fine and warm, the temperature reaching a maximum of 70 degrees. The sun shone brightly and there was no wind, but the barometer fell sharply throughout the day and read 29.90 inches in the late afternoon. There was light rain late last night and the barometer rose to 29.96 inches at midnight. Cloudy and showery weather, with a fresh wind from the east to the northeast, was experienced during the day. The maximum temperature was 64 degrees. The barometric pressure fell during the afternoon, the reading at 5 p.m. being 30.20 inches. WELLINGTON, May 18. The weather to-day was rather cloudy in the morning but otherwise was fine and mild. A northerly wind was blowing and became strong during the day. The minimum temperature last night was 47.3 degrees and the maximum to-day 59.3 degrees. At 3 p.m. the barometer reading was 30.112 inches. CHRISTCHURCH, May 18. The sun shone from a cloudless sky to-day and there was practically no wind. The maximum temperature was 59.3 degrees.
