SCHOOLMASTER TRANSFERRED

FAREWELL FUNCTIONS ATTENDED

A representative gathering of friends and pupils met at the Waihao Downs School to say farewell to Mr and Mrs Taylor, prior to their departure for Waituna, Mr Taylor having been appointed to the headmastership of the Waituna Creek School. The chairman (Mr W. Allen) stated that Mr Taylor had been sole teacher at the Waihao Downs School for nearly four years, and he congratulated him on the efficiency the school had attained. He thanked Mrs Taylor for her help and kindness to the children, and then called upon Mrs Allen to present Mr and Mrs Taylor with a chiming clock as a token of the esteem in which they were held in the district. Mr Taylor, on behalf of Mrs Taylor and himself, thanked those responsible for the gift. The following items were contributed: —Vocal items, Miss Marjorie Clelland—"A Little Old Garden." "When Song Is Sweet," and later in the evening "Come to the Fair "; clever dancing. Miss Netta Berry and pupils; children's items —"John Peel," Silent Night," and "The Tree in the Wood"; " The Soldiers' Song," the lower classes. On Friday morning the children entertained Mr and Mrs Taylor at a novel morning party. Ivan Mitchell called upon Graham Allen to present Mr Taylor with a chromium ash tray and Noeline Cromie to present Mrs Taylor with a crystal honey jar. Mr Taylor in his reply expressed his delight at the original entertainment and on behalf of Mrs Taylor and himself thanked the children for the gifts.
