PROMPT UNLOADING

EMPIRE EXHIBITION SUPPLIES

NEW ZEALAND PAVILION

(From Our Own Correspondent) (By Air Mail) LONDON, Apl. 20. Rapid work was necessary on the arrival of the Rangitiki from New Zealand recently to ensure that supplies for the Dominion’s pavilion at the Empire Exhibition should be in Glasgow with the least possible delay. The Rangitiki had on board 40 cases of urgently-needed material for the exhibition, which is to open in a fortnight’s time, and, as she was two days late, did not arrive until 4 p.m. on the day before Good Friday, Through the co-operation of the New Zealand Shipping Company and the London and North Eastern Railway Company, it was possible to get the cases ashore in little more than an hour after the vessel’s arrival, and to rush them by special train to connect with a train leaving London for Scotland. But for this prompt work the material would probably not have been available in Glasgow until after the Easter holidays. _ , , It seems likely that New Zealand will be the only dominion which will be able to keep within the agreed limit for expenditure on the exhibition. Except for Canada, the dominions originally planned not to spend more than £IO,OOO each, but most of them have already overspent this amount. This is the first time (hat the organisation of a New Zealand display of such magnitude has been carried out by the normal Government stalls in London. The preparation of the pavilion is under the charge of Mr 3. B. Drew and his staff in the publicity department at the High Commissioner s office, while displays connected with their own products are being arranged by the various New Zealand produce boards and divisions in London. During the exhibition the New Zealand pavilion will be in charge of Mr J. H. Hall, formerly editor of the Dominion, Wellington.
