One, standing in the name of the Opposition Liberals, calls for the appointment of a select committee to investigate aircraft supply, anti-aircraft defence, and air raid precautions, and the other, which is backed by 16 Government supporters, including Mr Winston Churchill, welcomes the appointment of an independent committee of inquiry. GOVERNMENT FACES CRISIS REVOLT NOT UNLIKELY LONDON, May 14. (Received May 15, at 5.5 p.m.) The Daily Mail says: “Owing to the parliamentary feeling, Lord Swinton several days ago placed his resignation in the hands of Mr Chamberlain, who refused to accept it, but the Government faces a crisis more serious than after Mr Eden’s resignation. Mr Chamberlain’s advisers contend that the Government cannot agree to an air inquiry, which both Conservatives and Labour members demand, as it would delay Air Ministry work. However, if Mr Chamberlain refuses, over 100 Conservatives will be confronted with either abstaining from an important division or vpting' against the Government. Some believe that a revolt can be averted if Lord Swinton and Earl Winterton resign, necessitating far-reaching reconstruction of the Cabinet.
