DROUGHT IN FRANCE
ACUTE WATER SHORTAGE AGRICULTURE CRIPPLED PARIS, May 13. Only a miracle can save Paris from an acute water shortage. Agriculture has already been severely crippled. POSITION IN BRITAIN SCARCITY OF VEGETABLES LONDON, May 13. The severe drought which threatened agriculturists and fruitgrowers with ruin has broken in Wales and the west and north of England, but in the east and south only showers have fallen, and the anxiety is not relieved. For the first time in weeks the winds have veered to the rain quarter, but the disturbance does not promise a substantial downpour. Covent Garden reports an unparalleled scarcity of vegetables.
