Holmlea is expected here this morning to discharge and load general cargo, and is to sail this evening for Wellington, New Plymouth and Port Waikato, via Tlmaru and Lyttelton. Storm arrived here yesterday and Is to load ©id to-day for Wellington, Picton and Wanganui, via Tlmaru and Lyttelton. Breeze, which is in dock at- Port Chalmers for cleaning and painting, Is to come to Dunedin to-morrow to load for Wellington and Wanganui, via ports. WAIKOUAITI LATER !. The Union Company advises that the Walkoualti, bringing cargo from New South Wales 'ports, is now to leave Bluff to-morrow evening for Dunedin, Tlmaru and Lyttelton, and Is due here on Wednesday morning. THE JAMES COOK The Sleigh steamer James Cook, with cargo from New South Wales, arrived hero yesterday and berthed at the Victoria wharf to commence discharge. It 1s hoped to despatch her this evening for Lyttelton and Greymouth. THE MAUI POMARE The Government motor ship Maul Pomaro is now to leave Wellington to-morrow for Apia and Nine. She la due at Apia on May 24, Niue on April 28. ami back nt Lyttelton on June G. On her next trip to the Islands, the Maui Pomaro will leave Wellington on June 14. FORDSDALE IN PORT The Shaw Savill and Albion steamer Fordsdale, from Liverpool, via northern ports, arrived here yesterday and berthed at Port Chalmers to discharge and load general cargo. It Is Intended to despatch her to-morrow evening or on Wednesday for New Plymouth. CITY OP YOKOHAMA Bringing Canadian cargo from Halifax, tho M.-A.-N.Z. Line steamer, City of Yokohama, Is due here on Thursday to complete discharge, fIULF PORTS SERVICE H, C. Campbell, Ltd, advises that the following loadings at Gulf of Mexico ports have been arranged;—Anhalt, end of May: Dessau, middle of July; Naumburg, middle to second half of August. NORWEGIAN TANKERS Two Norwegian motor tankers, the Herborg, 7892 tons, and the Noraviml, 8231 tons, will bring motor spirit to Auckland for the Shell Company next month. The Herborg In due from Ballkpapan on June 4, and the Noraviml la expected from Singapore on Juno 26.

THE CITY OF MOBILE The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the steamer City of Mobile, bringing cargo from New York for the A and A Line, Is not now expected to reach Dunedin until May 28. DUSKY SOUND BEACON The Marine Department advises that the beacon formerly situated on Station Island, Dusky Sound, lat. 43deg. 46min. S. and long. IGGdeg SSmln E., no longer exists. MIDDLESEX CLEARS CURACAO Cabled advice has been received by the Federal Company that the Middlesex cleared Curacao last Monday morning. She left Auckland on April 15 for London. Avonmouth, Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow, via the Panama canal. PIAKO CLEARS RIO DE JANIERO Cabled advice has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that (he Piako cleared Rio de Janlero last Tuesday morning. She left Wellington on April 9 for Southampton, Dunkirk and London, via Montevideo, Santos and Rio do Jhnlcro. INTERCOLONIAL SERVICE The Union Company advises that the transTasman liner Awatea will not withdraw from the service on May 26, as had previously been announced, hut will continue until her arrival at Wellington on August 18. She will re-enter tho service when leaving Wellington on October 3. The passenger steamer Maunganul will not enter the Intercolonial service until August 19, when she will leave Wellington for Sydney, and she will withdraw at Wellington on October 4. PERSONAL Captain J. S. Oxnard, formerly chief officer of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s motorliner Rangitata, is now In command of the Federal steamer Westmoreland. Mr R. W. East, late fourth officer of tho Monowai, has joined the Aorangl In a similar capacity, relieving Mr C. I. Blrnle for instructions. Mr P. J. Agnew, late fourth officer of the Maunganul, has joined the Kartigl as third officer, Mr F. W. Fegan having transferred to the Kauri. Mr B. H. Young has Joined the Kalingo ns second officer, relieving Mr R. K. McKenzie for holidays. Mr T. H. Jenkins has Joined the Kalingo as third officer, relieving Mr L. G. Harris for instruction. Mr E. G. Meatyard has rejoined the Wahlne as chief officer, vice Mr W. A. McGarry, who has transferred to the Rangatlra to relievo Mr W. J. Hill for holidays. CONTRACTS PENDING It Is understood that tenders have been invited by Cuban owners for the construction of 13 vessels, of which four will be cargo vessels' of 4500 tons, four of them larger vessels with speeds of 13 to 16 knots, and one a 20-knotl passenger ship. The placing of the orders Is believed to be in tho hands of a London naval architect. The Companhla Naeional de Navegucao, Lisbon, Is reported to be Inviting tenders for seven vessels, three of them being passenger ships of 10,009 tons gross each, and 16-17 knots speed, and the others cargo carriers. MALOLO RENAMED MATSOMA In memory of Captain William Matson (18491917), the founder of tho Matson Navigation Company, and one, of the outstanding pioneers in Pacific shipping history, the Matson liner Malolo has been renamed Matsonla. Tho vessel has undergone reconstruction, involving an expenditure of almost £IOO,OOO, In order to give her tho same features of accommodation as the company's other three large liners, Lurllnc. Mariposa and Monterey. Sixteen suites have been added, each consisting of a double bedroom, private bathroom, and lanal (a secluded private deck), enclosed by large windows opening on to the sea. Immediately forward of these, four new double bedrooms have been added. The promenade space on "A” deck has been enlarged, and all the first class staterooms redecorated and refurnished. NEW WILHELMSEN LINERS Messrs Wilhelm AVllhelmsen, the Oslo .owners, have recently had one vessel launched for their account In Holland and another delivered from Sweden. Tho Ncderlandscho Scheepsbouw Mi j., Amsterdam, have floated the cargo motor ship Trafalgar, an open shelter-decker, with fo’c.’slo, poop, and midships deckhouse. Her main dimensions are as follows : —Length overall, 453 ft (b.p. 430 ft); moulded breadth, 57ft; depth to shelter deck, 40ft, and draught 23ft Oln. She carried 8600 tons dw. at a speed of 13 knots, her double-acting two-stroke SlorkHesselman Diesel having an output of 5800 b.h.p. at 115 r.p.m. The vessel completed Is the cargo> motor ship Talisman, of 10,000 tons d.w., built, by Kockums Mek. Verkstads, Mainio, This vessel is also of tho . shelter-deck type, designed for the owners’ Australian trade, and is a sister ship of the Titanla, delivered In May of last year. She Is 470 ft In length by 62ft beam, and will be fitted with a doubleacting Kockums-M.A.N. Diesel.'
