BASKETBALL
SATURDAY’S MATCHES The following are the results of basketball matches played under the auspices of the. Otago Basketball Association on Saturday:— FIRST GRADE Y.W.C.A. v. TRAINING COLLEGE II The first 10 minutes •of the game YiW.C.A. v. Training College II produced evenly-contested basketball. Accurate shooting by the speedy YJW.C.A. forwards made scoring very high, the College defender, Miss Doig, frustrating many attempts at the Y.W.C.A. goal. The half-time score was 14—8 in Y.W.C.A.’s- favour. In the second half Y'.W.C.A. was definitely superior, the defenders striking form and thus preventing College from adding to its score. The game ended: — . < Y.W.C.A 28 ’ College 11 .. .. .. .. 14 McKenzies v. rawhiti The score, in Rawhiti's game against McKenzies was opened by the latter team shortly after the game started. The ball travelled several times up ‘and down the field, neither team being able to convert. Scoring was very slow, Rawhiti gaining its first point after 10 minutes’ play. The play at this stage was scrappy, the handling of the ball by both teams being very uncertain. Fast passing movements by J. R. McKenzies forwards increased their lead considerably and the half-time score was 10—1. , ' The second half still showed a poor standard of play, Rawhiti’s forwards not moving out sufficiently and taking too many long shots at the. goal, this probably accounting for their low scoring. The final score was:— J. R. McKenzies .. .. 25 Rawhiti 2 , COLLEGE I v. ALBANY I A good even game look place between College I and Albany I, with the issue in doubt till the final whistle. The first spell ‘ended in favour of Albany 14—10. The second spell was bright, with College showing improved form, the score at one stage being even. By steady play Albany again took the lead, but there was very little difference between the two teams, the standard of play being bf a high order, with Albany having the better of the exchanges. The fihal score was: Albany 1 30 College I ....... 17 Mr F. Bartlett was the referee. SECOND GRADE Albanv 17, Y.W.C.A. 8. Kiwi 20, N.E. Valley 8. Woolworths 19. Roslyn I 18. , Defiance 17.
