PARTY OF AMERICANS
VISIT TO DOMINION SOUTH ISLAND TOUR ARRANGED Perhaps the largest party of Americans to be personally conducted on a tour of New Zealand will be brought from Honolulu in June by Miss E. M. Sykes, the representative in the United States and Canada of the South Islands Travel Association. . The party, which will number 21, will spend six weeks in the Dominion, and will travel 3752 miles by buses. Thirty-two days will be spent in the South Island, and the scenic resorts of the North Island will be visited in the remaining 10 days. . .. . , Several prominent residents of Honolulu will be' among the party, which Miss Sykes considers likely to be the forerunner of other large parties to be attracted to the Dominion, and particularly to the South Island, in the advertising of which she is interested. She visited New Zealand some months ago, and the tour now arranged has directly resulted from her negotiations then. The resort at which the party will spend most time is Mount Cook, and the majority of the tourists will visit the Ball Hut for winter sports. The Southern Lakes also occupy a prominent place in the itinerary. The party is due to leave Honolulu in the Aorangi on June 15, reaching Auckland 12 dr.ys later. The members will immediately leave for the South Island.
They will reach Christchurch on June 29, and will motor that day to Hanmer Springs, where they will stay till July 1, when buses will take them, via Kaikoura, to Nelson. The following day they will motor to Westport, and, after an overnight stay, leave for visits to the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers. On July 9 they will travel from Hokitika to Timaru, and, on the following day go to the Hermitage. Most of the tourists will journey to the Ball Hut on July 13, and remain there for four days, to participate in the winter sports. They will be at Queenstown from the evening of July 18, and will spend several days on trips by motor and launch. From Queenstown, the tourists will visit Lake Manapouri and Eglinton Valley, and will spend a day in Dunedin before returning to Christchurch on July 29, on the evening of which they will leave for the North Island. The itinerary mapped out for them in the North Island includes visits to Napier, Lake Waikaremoana, Rotorua, Waitomo and Auckland.
