Friday, May 13 (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) WANDERING HORSE For allowing a horse to wander on the road Maurice John Smeaton was fined ss, with costs (10s). MOTORISTS’ OFFENCES Raymond Jeffrey Smart was fined 20s, with costs (10s) on each of two charges of driving a vehicle at night with only one headlight and failing to stop when signalled to do so by a traffic inspector.—On a charge of failing to produce his driver’s licence when asked to do so he was fined 10s, with costs (10s). Roderick James Stewart Ferguson was fined £2, with costs (10s) for exceeding a speed of 30 miles an hour on Anzac avenue.

Charged with exceeding the load for which his vehicle was licensed, Henry Johnson Turnbull was fined 30s, with costs (10s). Ralph Satchwell Anderson was fined 30s, with costs (10s) for operating a motor lorry without a goods service licence and for failing to produce a warrant of fitness was fined 10s, with costs (10s). George Nicholas Kemp, an unlicensed motor driver, was fined 10s, with costs (10s). DANGEROUS DRIVING

Roderick McKenzie also appeared on a charge of driving a car without a warrant of fitness, but the magistrate took into consideration the fact that the vehicle was a rental car and entered a conviction only. —The Gold Band Taxi Company, charged with assisting in the commission of the offence, was fined 10s, with costs (10s). Albert Loubain Buckley, who also drove a rental car without the prescribed warrant, was convicted and discharged. CIVIL CASES

Judgment was given for the plaintiff with costs (19s) in the undefended case in which F. Ayson claimed from J. Beleski the sum of £2 14s for goods supplied. Ivor Robert Prescott proceeded against Roy Lowe on a judgment summons, claiming the sum of £1 15s sd.—The defendant, who did not appear, was ordered to pay the amount due, with costs (16s), in default two days’ imprisonment.
