ALEXANDRA Plunket Society The annual meeting of the Alexandra sub-branch of the Plunket Society was held on Wednesday afternoon, when Mrs W. A. Bodkin (president) presided over a large attendance of mem-. Presenting the twenty-fourth annual report, Mrs Bodkin stated that the financial position had improved, the credit balance being £94 Is Bd. The position, however, was .scarcely satisfactory, as £79 8s 9d came from Alexandra alone, and £37 8s Id from the rest of the area, including a donation of £5 from the Vincent County Council. It was to give service to the outlying parts of the district that the society kept a car, and this was the branch’s biggest responsibility. It was only fair to expect people in the outlying areas to help to contribute to this service. , ~. Special mention was made of the results of the takings at sheep sales and also the donation of £l3 Os 3d from the organisers of the Trades Ball. For the appeal for funds for rebuilding the Dunedin Karitane Hospital, the local branch contributed £lO 10s. The branch specially regretted the loss during the year of Nurse Watt, who had done excellent service as Plunket nurse in the district, but who resigned to further the study of her profession. Nurse Andrew was appointed m her stead, and she , was carrying on the work in a capable manner. A special vote of thanks was accorded Mr C. E. Richards (auditor), Mr C. -Rogers (car supervisor), and Alexandra Motors for free garaging. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs E. Russell; vice-presidents—Mesdames W. A. Bodkin, E. J. Terry, and A. T. Stewart, secretary and treasurer, Mrs T. E. Sunderland; Committee—Mesdames R. Love, W. Hull, J. D. Watt. L, A. Clark, C. Rooney. J. Lunn. J. D. Thomson. J. R. Earwaker. A. E. Gladstone, W. Hesson, F. R. Whitelock, G. G. Calder, and H. E. Stevens (Clyde): Advisory Board—Messrs W. A. Bodkin, C. Rogers, C. E. Richards, and W. Bringans; auditor. Mr C. E. Richards. The newly elected president returned thanks for‘her election Special votes of thanks were accorded to Mrs Bodkin and to the secretary (Mrs T. E. Sunderland). Hockey Club The annual meeting of the Alexandra Ladies’ Hockey Club was held on Thursday evening, the president (Mr A. McKellar) presiding over a good attendance of members. The annual report and balance sheet disclosed a credit balance of £6 6s sd. The club had retained the Bodkin Cup during the year. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr W. A. Archer; delegates, Messrs A. McKellar and F. Archer. Personal Mr and Mrs A. F. Stewart, of Masterton, have left on their return to the north. , Mr C. J. McCroy, of Westport, 1 has taken up duty in the stores branch of the Public Works Department. Mr S. T. Spain, of Earnscleugh Station, who was on a visit to the North Island, has been taken seriously ill and his family, Mrs L. H. Denniston and Messrs C. J. and V. G. Spain, left by air for Rotorua on Thursday. MILLER’S FLAT Bowling Club Activities The Miller’s Flat Bowling Club commenced its euchre evenings on Wednesday. Owing to counter attractions. the attendance was much below the average. 28 players taking part in the game. Prize-winners were: —Mrs A. D. Paterson, Mrg N. Mosley. Mr L. Graham and Mr Lawson. Rugby Football The undefeated Miller’s Flat Rugby football team will meet Roxburgh at Miller’s Flat to-day, and the local hockey team will go to Roxburgh to play Teviot.
