THE IRISH BUDGET

PRESENT , IN THE DAIL ALLOCATION FOR DEFENCE DUBLIN, May 12. (Received May 13, at 5.5 p.m.) No new taxes or reliefs marked the Irish Budget, which was introduced in the Dail by the Minister of Finance (Mr Sean McEntee). The sum of £600,000 has been allotted to defence, making the year’s total £2,272,314. The estimated revenue is £31.505,000, and the expenditure £31,500,990. Interest charges in connection with the British loan are estimated at £425,000 in 1938. Mr McEntee recalled that the capita] value payments to Britain would have been £100,009,000. The community, therefore, might feel satisfied that it was advantageous to settle the claim for £ 10,000,000.
