THE SUDETEN PROBLEM
HERR HENLEIN VISITS LONDON DISCUSSIONS ARRANGED PRAGUE, May 12. Herr Henlein has left for London to discuss the Sudeten problem with his political friends. DESIRE OF SUDETENS MEDIATION BY BRITAIN LONDON, May 13. (Received May 13, at 10.30 p.m.) Herr Henlein landed at Croyden from Brussels and drove to. an unknown destination. The Daily Mail’s Prague correspondent says considerable importance is being attached to Herr Henlein’s visit because of the imminence of the publication of the Government’s nationalities statute. The Sudetens desire Britain to mediate on the minority question and are holding out hopes of support from Britain against the Czechs. There are persistent reports of violent differences in the Cabinet over the statute, only Dr Hodza’s impartiality preventing its abandonment. There were very bitter scenes in Parliament after allegations that promises to the Germans had not been kept. NAME OF HOST NOT DISCLOSED PRAGUE, May 12. (Received May 13, at 11 p.m.) Asked whether Herr Henlein’s week-end in England was politically significant, the Sudeten spokesman said: “All week-end visits have political significance these days. The people of England want to know the real truth of what is happening in Czechoslovakia. Thus far they have heard the Czech viewpoint.” The spokesman declined to name Herr Henlein’s English host.
