HIGHER THAN DICTATORS
“We in Great Britain are just as much determined to protect ourselves and our interests as we were in 1914,” declared Mr H. Ramsbolham, British Minister of Pensions, in a recent speech. “We must not imitate the nervous, excitable, hysterical behaviour of the Socialists and Opposition Liberals. I have yet to learn that the British people is disppsed to lose its head and capacity for calmness and restraint because some day, somewhere, its interests may be threatened. They have been threatened before and we have known how to defend them. We shall know how to defend them again. We all feel indignant and angry at the temporary success which has been obtained by methods which, to us, are most reprehensible. But 1 cannot believe that methods of force and violence will triumph for ever. Dictators are in the ascendant now, but the inherent virtues of mankind cannot, aijd will not, be permanently suppressed. I believe in something higher than dictators, and more powerful than force and violence. I believe in a moral governance of the world."
