MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING
RETURNED SOLDIERS’ CLUB The weekly shoot of the Returned Soldiers’ Small Bore Rifle Shooting Club took place on Wednesday last, and some good shooting was again evident. For the first time this season the new targets were used, and proved no handicap to experienced shooters. Mr J. Harrison scored a possible, Mr C. Matthews, Mr J. Judson, Mr D. Marr, Mr A. Dodds, Mr T. Menzies all following closely. The club's team for the shopt against the Railway Club on Monday will be:—Messrs D. Marr, H. Edmonds, J. Harrison, J. Judson, A. ,Dodds, W. Meikle. LAUDER CLUB Following are the results of the Lauder Miniature Rifle Club’s shoot on May 3, when there was an attendance of 29 members: —S. Hoskins gained the rifle button (78 off the rifle). V. Leitch the handicap button, and Mrs W. Leask the ladies’ button (77 off the rifle). R. Jeffreys won the progress button. Dr Bell (highest score) 78—7—80, W. Leask 76—4—80, S. Hoskins 75—3—78, A. CENTRAL OTAGO ASSOCIATION The annual meeting of the Central Otago Miniature Rifle Shooting Association was held at Omakau on Saturday, when the following delegates were present:—Messrs J. E. Kearney, in the chair, J. Cromb (Ranfujly), J. M. Griffiths, J. H. Reid (Kyeburn), H. E. Stevens. W. Thomson (Clyde), J. C. and J. P. Kearney (Hyde). Dr Bell. Messrs W. J. Anderson (Lauder), D. McLean. C. L. Caldwell (Omakau), W. W. . Pearson. G. Creighton (Middlemarch) and F. A. Mathias (Waipiata). The annual renort and balance sheet, showing a credit of £7 8s 6d, were read and adopted. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr Andrews (Oamaru); president, Mr J. E. Kearney: vice-presidents, Messrs W. Kearney and C. L. Caldwell; secretary, Mr J. M. Griffiths; scrutineers—Messrs W. W. Pearson. F. A. Mathias and J. P. Kearney. The resignation of the secretary (Mr R. G. Spence) was accepted with regret, several delegates speaking in complimentary terms of his services. It was decided to hold the championship meeting during (September at Ranfurly, a motion that the meeting be held at Lauder being defeated. It was agreed that for the individual event all three shoots were to count, and for the two cups the best two out of three. , The Andrews and Herald Cups competitions are to commence a week after the North Otago Shield competition. Owing to the experience of last year, it was resolved to ask secretaries to be more prompt in forwarding targets to the association secretary. The -Spence Cup (for competition amongst Maniototo clubs) is to be vested in the association, and the conditions altered to make it a straightout challenge—one shoot on the holder’s range. Correspondence was read regarding the matter of liability through accident. and it was decided to recommend clubs to consider the advisability of insuring.
