JUVENILE OPERETTA

“ CINDERELLA” AT TOWN HALL

A charming programme of juvenile artistry was presented m the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on Saturday afternoon and evening by members of the Dunedin Juvenile Operatic Society, under the direction of Miss Muriel Eagar. The first section of the production was devoted to vocal, choral, instrumental and elocutionary presentations by the young performers, and the second part was occupied with the delightful fairy operetta. “Cinderella,” which engaged the energies and talents of a cast of nine principals, an ensemble of more than a score, and a trio of competent and attractive dancers. Presented in three acts, this little fantasy has a pleasing and simple musical score, which gives the young performers many opportunities of displaying the undoubted proficiency which is theirs. The standard of performance throughout, not only in the operetta, but also in the concert programme which preceded it, was commendably high, and reflected great credit on Miss Eagar and those responsible for the production. Gloria Foots was charming in the title role, and Donald McFarlane’s Prince Charming was a neat study, The other leading performers were Isabel Dakers, Mary Delaney, Mina Parker, Dorothy Rishworth, Jean Hall, Betty Perks, Maureen Keenan and Mr D. C. Rose. Joyce Rowley, Maureen Keenan and Irene Scott shared the dancing honours and did some artistic work. The ensemble was as follows: —Valarie Reid, Phonsene Mooney, Imelda and Patricia Dysart.
