A CHANGE INDICATED

The following is the official weather forecast:— Pressure is high at Chatham Islands, but a xather deep cyclonic depression is centred near Auckland. A shallow depression is advancing also across the Tasman Sea. Indications are for: — Winds.—South-westerly north of Auckland, but otherwise south-easterly to easterly prevailing from Nelson and Marlborough northwards; moderate to strong generally, and of gale to strong gale force in places; moderate northeasterlies over the rest of the country, but later changing to southerlies in the south. ' , Seas.—New Zealand waters: Rough to high north of Castlepoint, and becoming rough generally north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura; elsewhere moderate, but rising later in the South-eastern Tasman Sea.. Winds variable, but moderate to strong southerlies to south-easterlies predominating. Seas rough in places. Driving rain was experienced throughout the day, totalling more than one inch. There was a strong southerly blowing. The maximum temperature was 66 degrees. The barometer fell steeply all day, the reading at 5 prm. being 29.40 inches. WELLINGTON, May 4. The weather to-day was overcast, with a light to moderate south-easterly breeze, rain falling over the eastern hills, but little reached the city. Temperatures were mild, the minimum temperature last night being 53.1 degrees, and the maximum to-day M. 4 degrees. At 3 p.m. the barometer reading was 29.997 inches. CHRISTCHURCH, May 4. The weather was overcast to-day, with occasional light showers of rain. A strong north-east breeze prevailed. The maximum temperature was 60 degrees. The barometer fell slowly to 30.06 inches at 5 p.m.
